How to use one-line help ? 6. Data Base Administrator responsibilities 7. Future releases 1. Problems during setup Because LabDB installs system files that may be shared with other applications, it is best to shut down other applications before setting up. If Setup is interrupted by a loss of power, a power surge, or some other unexpected incident, then restart Windows before you run Setup again. If you get the error message -> c:\windows\system\Mfc42.dll "The destination file in in-use. Please ensure that all other applications are closed", just ignore the message, then another message will be displayed "If you ignore a copy error, the file will not be copied. The application may not function properly as a result. Do you want to ignore the error ?. Answer is yes. This happens sometimes because Windows is using the dlls to run itself. If you get the error message -> "A file being copied is older than the file currently on your system. It is recommended to keep you exixting file. Do you want to keep it?". The answer is yes. This error happens when you have and older version of any dll or ocx or another system file so you should keep the newest version. If you get the error message -> "An error occured while registering the file EXPSRV.DLL", you can ignore it, but you should use REGSRV32.exe program to register it. This error happens when the setup program is trying to register a DLL or OCX into the registry, but there are some conflicts to do it. 2. Minimum hardware requirements Before installing the system, make sure your computer system meets the following requirements. Then read the section 3 of this file "Running set up" Component Client Requirement Server Requirement Computer 486DX or higher processor Pentium 166 or higher processor RAM Memory 16 MB; 32 MB is recommended 32 MB; 64 MB is recommended Disk space 40 MB; 100 MB is recommended 85 MB; 300 MB is recommended Windows MS-Windows 95 or later NT 4.0 Server DataBase Sybase System 11 version: 3.11.00.01 ODBC driver SYSYB9x.DLL SYSYBNT.DLL Devices CD ROM (also UNIX version contact author) 3. Follow the instructions on your screen. The program install the system under c:\Program Files\ LabDB\ however you can change the destination path. Setup creates a LabTucker group and adds the icons to run the system. You need to connect the ODBC driver to work with the system; use "ODBC32 Data Sources" that is under the control panel, you need to use as Source Name: "SybaseLab", Server Name "labdb" and Database Name "LabTucker" as shown in the next topic. To run this program refere to the windows user help. 4. Client Side Configuration If you are using Sybase version 11.9.2: a. Install CD PC Client for Sybase 11.9.2 to get the ODBC Drivers and Dsedit. b. Run Dsedit (click on start, then programs, sybase and Dsedit) c. Once you are in Dsedit create a new server (labdb). d. Doble click on server address and click on add to add a protocol address. e. Choose TCP as Protocol and give the network address where the database is located 128.206.30,203,4100 for quetzalcoatl production server. f. Click on Server Object and Ping Server then ping to the server to verify the connection (you should get a succed status, otherwise check for networking problems). g. Click on Start, then Settings and Control Panel to start ODBC Connectivity. h. Doble Click on ODBC Data Sources and click on System DSN Tab. i. Install the application on any computer on the network and verify that they are working properly. d. Back ups of the information after certain amount of time has been spent in changing one or more files. 7. Future releases. The future release will contain: In process Generals: The Speed of the system for data entry, and generation of reports depends on computer used, characteristics and hard disk available and networking processes.
